The Milquetoast in the Mirror

I learned a new word today. That word is Milquetoast (mĭlk′tōst′). The word is defined as or

describes a person who is very timid, spineless, especially someone who is easily intimated.

Now the first image that may come to mind is of someone who outwardly displays low self

esteem or looks like a "Poindexter." Oh, but the shoe is big enough for everyone. There are

people who are in extremely good shape, people who are quite fashionable, people who love

accolades, people who love to be different from the rest, people who love getting the big

money deal, people who love to express gossip and talk of their possessions or position in life,

their great job. A person could be a combination of these various personalities, yet the

common denominator could be the "What If." "What if I cannot finalized the next big money

deal?" "What if I wear something that my "friends" already saw me wear before, what will they

think?" "What if the guys see me fail on my bench max?" "Gossiping doesn't feel so good

anymore, but if I stop will they still be my friends?" "What if I put on a few pounds, oh maybe I

will put on some extra clothing." "I guess it will be o.k.?" "What if I lose my job, will my friends

still like me?" "What will my friends think if I don't drink at the bar tonight?" "Will they think I'm

soft?" "What if I don't eat any meat at the family dinner, will they look at me funny?" ALL THAT

OL'BULLSHIT!!!!!

With age and time their should come wisdom. However, that clearly is not always the situation.

There are a lot of "OLD CHILDREN" running around that live and die on the opinion of others.

Thus you have the Milquetoast pronounced MILKTOAST. They kissin' their bosses ass, when in

fact that employer needs you and your hard work and skill which should be looked at as a

personal investment in yourself so that you can do better as in, another job or GASP!! working

for YOURSELF!!! Oh the horror!!!! Yeah, even the professional athletes are ALL MILKTOAST.

For you professional sports buffs who can call out NFL, NBA, MLB, Hockey, Golf and other

sports stats, let me see if you remember this picture.

On July 4, 1967, Jim Brown (Cleveland Browns), Bill Russell (Boston Celtics), Kareem Abdul-

Jabbar (UCLA), John Wooten (Cleveland Browns), Jim Shorter (Washington Redskins), Willie

Davis(Green Bay Packers), Curtis McClinton (Kansas City Chiefs), Sid Williams(Cleveland

Browns) and Bobby Mitchell (Washington Redskins) met with Muhammad Ali and then held a

news conference in support of his refusal to be drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967. Community

leaders such as Carl Stokes, who would become the first black mayor of a major U.S. city stood

in unity as well on that day. They were not at the news conference to speak about sports. An

excellent article among many about this particular event can be found at Why the 'Ali Summit'

remains a transnational moment in U.S. history” by Eric Adelson of Yahoo Sports.

u-s--history-) Another is "Remembering Cleveland's Muhammad Ali Summit, 45 years later"

by Branson Wright on Cleveland.com

Then there was what could be called the loudest and most prolific display of peaceful political

protest in sports history. The 1968 Olympic Black Power Salute.

Black athletes Tommie Smith and John Carlos stood on the podium to face their flags during

their medal ceremony in the Olympic Stadium in Mexico City, to hear the American national

anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner". Each athlete in a move that shocked the world

and angered thousands of Americans, raised a black-gloved fist, and kept them raised until the

anthem had finished. This after having won gold and bronze medals, respectively, in the 200

meter running event. Along with Smith and Carlos, Australian silver medalist Peter Norman also

wore human rights badges on their jackets. Tommie Smith is noted as stating many years later

in his book “Silent Gesture” that the raising of the fist was not a "Black Power" salute, but a

"human rights salute". In addition the brothers received their medals while not wearing shoes,

but wearing black socks, which represented black poverty in America, which still exist in 2016.

Tommie Smith wore a black scarf around his neck to represent black pride, John Carlos had his

tracksuit top unzipped to show solidarity with all blue collar workers in America and wore a

necklace of beads which were for those Black individuals that were lynched, or killed by other

means that no one said a prayer for. It additionally was to pay respects to African people who

were thrown off the side of boats or who chose death, during the infamous Middle Passage.

Smith, Carlos and Norman wore Olympic Project for Human Rights (OPHR) badges after

Norman, a critic of Australia's former White Australia Policy, expressed empathy with their

ideals. As they left the podium they were booed by the crowd. A crowd who had full

knowledge of the violence taking place in America during the 1960’s Civil Rights Movement.

Smith later said, "If I win, I am American, not a black American. But if I did something bad, then

they would say I am a Negro. We are black and we are proud of being black. Black America will

understand what we did tonight." Yeah, now how many of today’s Athletes are willing to put it

all on the line like that in front of the biggest sporting event in the world, in 2016…Oh… no one

did, the current Olympics just ended weeks ago. I will continue…

Of course these guys now would never put their endorsements and contracts on the line to

speak out on social issues that they feel strongly about. The hardest the majority will go at a

topic might be quietly giving money to a "non-threatening" charity. Speaking after a playoff

game or a championship game on the press conference podium about “sensitive” social issues

to the overly sensitive “Cult of Personality” led masses...on national television?

Don’t wait on that. But wait, there have been sightings…in his own way and with what has

struck a cord with the Soft Assess who make up the Masses…a professional athlete did speak

on how he felt. I may not be in total agreement with the facts of his content, nor may I be

totally convinced that he just decided out of the blue to take a stand…and if he does not win

the starting job for his position on his team, it will not matter what he said…not to mention that

this story will probably be forgotten in perhaps two weeks max…I give you…

Colin Kaepernick. Who is Anti-Milquetoast (Milktoast) NUMBER #1. It matters not if people

agree with him or not. Buddy held his nuts and did what he felt he had to do and said what he

wanted to say…

Not to mention he is willing to do it solo…Hey, Anti-Milquetoast! Also you have NBA star

athletes Carmelo Anthony, Lebron James, Chris Paul and Dwayne Wade who recently

opened the latest ESPY awards show on ESPN.

They all voiced their opinion one the mass coverage of violence against black males by

police and the need for change.

Again, I look at things in a very different way and I read all points of these stories that

have come out over the last couple of years. The antithesis of milquetoast is having

confidence in oneself. My main topics of discussion on this blog deal with the metaphysical and

will eventually delve into deeper occult themes and then back into topics of everyday life.

However, at this time I will just hit you upside your head with certain topics such as

Numerology, Astrology, Tarot and needless to say the power of the mind. Nothing works and

nothing will change if you first do not get the idea and the vision of success in your mind, and

then be willing to take the necessary steps towards, one goal at a time. Taking those steps by

the way, while not caring about what friend, family, co-worker or other will think or say. You

certainly cannot study and apply metaphysics without a profound confidence and belief, let

alone apply anything else.

So what will it take? Who are you when you are all alone? Who are you when you wake in the

morning or before you go to sleep at night and look in the mirror? Can you say that you feel

good about yourself and the direction that you are going ,or are you scarred, timid,

unassertive, spineless, easily dominated or intimidated? Don’t drink the Kool-

Aid…
